A relational database organizes data into tables which can be linked—or related—based on data common to each. The traditional spreadsheets that brokers operate within do not carry a relational component. I.E. James Smith could show up on your spreadsheet 4 times, with 4 different properties when in fact, he is actually only one contact. Apto is a relational database for commercial real estate in the sense that it creates these links in a digital format for you. There will only be one James Smith in your Apto, and you will see all four of his properties in one place!
In this article, you'll:
Learn about the relational links contained in a Contact or Company record
Understand how relational links work on a Property record
By hovering on the Contact name, you'll gain insight into the other related objects (the colored icons above). On a Contact, this allows you to track pursuits (opportunities), active assignments and specific deal involvement. These are all relational components that provide visibility into your relationship with this contact.
The same concepts apply to Companies as well!
When viewing the Property record, I can see the owner of this Property, as well as track the tenants who are leasing space there. Furthermore, you can track opportunities (both sales and leasing) through the other colored icons above.
Now - let's find that ‘Aha’ moment. To bring the relational aspect full circle, see below for how we find a tenant within a property and also see that tenant’s leasing footprint on the company page.
This same concept applies to a Contact and its portfolio as well!
Apto's relational connections will dramatically transform your business as you transition away from a series of spreadsheets! Apto puts your data to work for you by reducing duplicate entry, and making it easy to rapidly view and establish relationships between your Contacts, the Companies you work with, and the Properties they own.
Next, learn how to add a Contact, Company or Property to Apto.
